The World Ends With You is a Japanese action RPG co-developed by Square Enix and Jupiter for the Nintendo DS. It was originally released on July 27, 2007, and was released for North America on April 22, 2008. The game is heavily inspired by Shibuya's youth culture. The game utilizes both screens of the DS for an interesting combat system, using the touch screen to control the protagonist Neku, and the top screen and d-pad inputs to control Neku's partner. The game has recieved high praise for its story, graphics, and soundtrack throughout the years and is widely regarded as one of the best Nintendo DS games.

A mobile port of the game titled The World Ends With You: Solo Remix was released on August 27, 2012 for iOS and June 26, 2014 for Android. Another port for the Nintendo Switch, titled The World Ends With You: Final Remix was released on October 12, 2018. This version features extra story content that ties into the sequel. The game also has an anime adaptation that aired from April 10 to June 26, 2021 through Funimation, as well as the Super Animeism block on MBS and TBS.

The game recived a sequel, NEO: The World Ends With You, which released for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 on July 27, 2021, and for Windows on September 28, 2021. The game has noticable differences from the first, mainly being the transition to 3D graphics and the change from having a partner to a team of several members. NEO was met with praise, but unfortunately did not sell well due to a lack of promotion.
