2000
- ??/??/2000 - Development starts as a research project at Pompeu Fabra University, led by Kenmochi Hideki and backed by Yamaha.
2002
- ??/??/2002 - PowerFX, Zero-G limited, and Crypton Future Media join the project.
2003
- ??/??/2003 - "JODIE", "TARO", and "HANAKO" are listed on Yamaha's VOCALOID website. These are codenames for Sweet ANN, KAITO, and MEIKO.
- 02/26/2003 - Yamaha announces the VOCALOID project.
- 07/24/2003 - "HISTORY OF LOGIC SYSTEM" is released. This is an album showcasing what would later be revealed to be KAITO and MEIKO's vocals.
2004
- 01/15/2004 - The first edition of VOCALOID is released alonside the vocals LEON and LOLA.
- 03/03/2004 - LEON and LOLA are released in Japan.
- 03/03/2004 - A cover of "Beloved Tomboyish Girl" using LOLA is uploaded to Nico Nico Douga, making this the first VOCALOID video and first VOCALOID cover to be uploaded to the site.
- 07/01/2004 - MIRIAM is released.
- 07/26/2004 - MIRIAM is released in Japan.
- 11/05/2004 - MEIKO is released.
- 12/??/2004 - A trial version of MEIKO is released.
- 12/26/2004 - A concert is held in Novosibirsk, Russia, featuring MIRIAM singing a cover of the song "Sad Mondays". This is the first time a VOCALOID has appeared as a part of a live performance.
2005
- ??/??/2005 - LEON and LOLA win the 2005 Electronic Musician Editor’s Choice Award.
- ??/??/2005 - MEIKO sells over 3,000 units, 3x more than expected. So far, she is the most successful VOCALOID.
- ??/??/2005 - LEON, LOLA, and MIRIAM have met all expectations of sales, except for in America.
2006
- ??/??/2006 - The album "Mesto Pod Solntsem" is released, with all songs sung by LEON. This makes it the first VOCALOID album.
- ??/??/2006 - Earliest known year of existence for "RONIE", the codename for BIG AL.
- 02/17/2006 - KAITO is released.
- 11/25/2006 - The movie "Paprika" is released. It contains the first use of VOCALOID in a film, the vocal being LOLA.
2007
- ??/??/2007 - KAITO fails to sell well in the previous year, with only 500 sales, the least of any VOCALOID. This causes attention to focus on producing female vocals.
- ??/??/2007 - Earliest known involvement with VOCALOID from Internet Co., Ltd.
- 01/27/2007 - VOCALOID 2 is announced.
- 06/25/2007 - Hatsune Miku's character illustration and first name are revealed on the SONICWIRE blog.
- 06/29/2007 - VOCALOID 2 is released alongside vocal Sweet ANN.
- 07/12/2007 - Hatsune Miku's surname is revealed on the SONICWIRE blog.
- 07/12/2007 - Crypton reports that VOCALOID 2 was being released without public beta testing.
- 08/31/2007 - Hatsune Miku is released.
- 09/??/2007 - Hatsune Miku gets over 3,000 sales within her first week, astonishing her developers.
- 11/03/2007 - The first VOM@S event takes place.
- 11/08/2007 - Kagamine Rin is revealed as Crypton Future Media's next VOCALOID.
- 11/26/2007 - Hatsune Miku is nominated for an "All About" award.
- 11/??/2007 - DTM MAGAZINE sells Hatsune Miku's demo in their November 2007 issue. The issue reportedly sold out soon after.
- 12/??/2007 - Work begins on Gackpoid.
- 12/??/2007 - First recordings for Megurine Luka take place.
- 12/03/2007 - Kagamine Len is revealed.
- 12/25/2007 - Hatsune Miku recieves an "All About" award.
- 12/27/2007 - Kagamine Rin & Len are released.
- 12/??/2007 - Crypton Future Media's next VOCALOID and final vocal in the Character Vocal Series, CV03, is revealed during promotion for Kagamine Rin & Len. CV03 is the codename for Megurine Luka.
2008
- ??/??/2008 - Due to VOCALOID's rise in popularity, LEON, LOLA, and MIRIAM are put back on sale.
- ??/??/2008 - KAITO takes second place for the Nico Nico Douga "Best seller" award.
- ??/??/2008 - Hatsune Miku sells 40,000 units within her first year, making her the most successful VOCALOID so far.
- ??/??/2008 - Kagamine Rin & Len sell 20,000 units within their first year.
- 01/??/2008 - A second sample set for Gackpoid is recorded.
- 01/24/2008 - Prima is released.
- 01/29/2008 - Crypton Future Media recieves a BCN award because of the increased sales numbers they recieved from VOCALOID.
- 02/22/2008 - Prima is released in Japan.
- 03/??/2008 - Gackpoid falls behind schedule.
- 03/05/2008 - Hatsune Miku wins the "Digital Content" AMD award.
- 04/??/2008 - Recordings for Megurine Luka continue.
- 06/??/2008 - Gackpoid is ready for release, but is delayed a month due to having no illustration.
- 06/12/2008 - Kagamine Rin & Len act2 is announced.
- 06/??/2008 - Planning begins for Megpoid.
- 07/18/2008 - Kagamine Rin & Len act2 is released after complaints of quality for the original vocals. Offered for free to previous purchasers of Kagamine Rin & Len until September 20, 2008.
- 07/31/2008 - Gackpoid is released.
- 11/14/2008 - Megurine Luka is revealed to be getting a second voicebank for English, making her the first bilingual VOCALOID.
2009
- ??/??/2009 - At some point during this year, Spanish vocaloids began production.
- 01/05/2009 - The first letter of Megurine Luka's name is revealed.
- 01/06/2009 - Megurine Luka's full name and character illustration is revealed.
- 01/30/2009 - Megurine Luka is released.
- 02/14/2009 - Work begins on Crypton Future Media's next Hatsune Miku project.
- 06/26/2009 - Megpoid is released.
- 07/02/2009 - Hatsune Miku -Project Diva- is released for the PlayStation Portable.
- 07/14/2009 - SONiKA is promoted.
- 07/15/2009 - SONiKA is released.
- 08/01/2009 - Vocals "CV01-dark-ProtoTYPEβ" and "CV01-vivid-ProtoTYPEβ" confirmed by Crypton Future Media.
